Racing into the fall season with WVU Campus Recreation

This fall season, people weren’t just running because they saw something spooky - it was also time for the WVU Campus Recreation Trick or Trot 5k!

On Saturday, October 16th, over 50 people who had registered for the event met to start the race. Before the race, participants could join in some yard game competitions, paint pumpkins and get their festive costumes ready for the run. Gabriela Jasek, the operations and events graduate assistant, said that they had begun planning the event in September. Even though it was a rainy day, she said that it didn’t dampen their spirits.

“Our participants were dedicated to reaching the finish line,” Jasek said.

The 5k was held on a family weekend, so there were many families who registered and joined their WVU students in the race. There were awards given to overall race winner, best costume, best team costume, middle of the pack and second to last.

“I think it was really nice seeing families come and spend time with their children,” she said. “I enjoyed seeing students come ready to run in Halloween costumes and enjoy the little gifts and prizes.”

Jasek said that the race was a good way to kick off the fall season.

“I think this event provided a fun activity for families to do while visiting their WVU students,” she said. “It was a fun way to get in the fall holiday feelings and spend time on campus.”
