Campus Recreation offers many different programs and services. Below is a summary of the major programming provided by Campus Rec to help you find your fit!
Campus Recreation is one of the biggest student employers on campus. Below is a list of all the positions available. Check out our Student Employment page for more details.
The WVUGo Media office employs students from a variety of majors and areas of interest to provide marketing assistance and media development to various programs. View details about the positions listed below on the Student Employment page.
PositionsThe Aquatics Center is located in the Student Recreation Center and includes a leisure pool, lap pool and a whirlpool hot tub. The Aquatics Center also hosts various events throughout the year, including battleship and log rolling. The Aquatics Center closes one hour before the Recreation Center.
Designed to replicate the unique beauty of West Virginia’s outdoors, the wall is 50 feet tall and features more than 2,000 interchangeable hand-holds with more than 3,500 square feet of climbing surface.
Climbers of all skill levels can challenge themselves, hone their skills and keep in shape at the WVU Climbing Wall. Any Recreation Center patron can use the climbing wall.
The Craft Center is located in the Braxton Tower Basement at the Evansdale Residential Complex. It offers many crafts and materials for students to express their creativity, including:
The Evansdale Fields host Intramural Sports and Club Sports events, informal pick-up sports and large events. They also host a variety of group fitness activities along with the Field REC. Amenities include:
Mountaineer KidZone (MKZ) is a flex-care center for children located in the Student Recreation Center. Staff provide safe and developmentally appropriate activities for children aged six weeks through eight years of age.
To join, the parent or guardian must be a current WVU student or employee and have a membership with Campus Recreation. An on-site registration must be completed for each child.
The Med Fields are a great place to play your favorite sports. They frequently host Intramural and Club Sports practice and events; otherwise, the fields are open to students to use for drop-in recreation. Amenities include:
The ORC is the hub of Adventure WV . The ORC offers a variety of educational materials and information, including books, local maps and brochures about our programs, as well as adventure gear rentals and other outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the state of West Virginia and beyond.

The Rec Center boasts 17,000 square feet of weight and fitness equipment, a 50-foot climbing wall, two swimming pools and 7 gym courts. It is the home of most of Campus Recreation's operations. Students come here for group fitness, working out and to use the climbing wall.
4-Court and 3-Court Gyms | The gyms are marked for basketball, volleyball and badminton. |
Aquatics Center | There are two pools: a six-lane, 25-yard lap/fitness pool and a leisure pool with a beach-style entry. There also is a whirlpool, bubble jet couch and a vortex area of moving water. |
Climbing Wall | The Rec Center’s focal point is the incredible, 50-foot climbing wall. Climbers of all skill levels are welcome. |
Elevated Running/Walking Track | Nine laps equal a mile on this three-lane, cushioned track above the basketball courts. |
Equipment Checkout | Balls, racquets and other equipment are available for use inside the SRC. Equipment may be checked out with a Mountaineer or Student Recreation Center card. |
Outdoor Recreation Center | You can rent a variety of outdoor equipment (camping supplies, skis, canoes, bicycles, etc.) and participate in outdoor adventure trips. |
Squash, Racquetball Courts | An international squash court and three racquetball courts have glass walls for playing and observation. Courts can be reserved by calling one day in advance. |
Weight/Fitness Equipment | The Rec Center has 17,000 square feet of equipment in three locations. This includes treadmills, elliptical trainers, stair-steppers, bikes, selectorized weight equipment, plate loaded equipment, free weights and more. |
Mountaineer KidZone | Child care is provided for Student Rec Center members. |
Lockers | Lockers are available for annual rental in both the Women’s and Men’s Locker Rooms. The annual fee is $110. Fifty daily-use lockers are also available in each locker room. There is no charge to utilize daily-use lockers (personal locks are recommended). |
Towel Service | Persons are allowed to check out one towel for use during their time spent at the Student Recreation Center. |
Employees must present verification of current West Virginia University employment (a valid Mountaineer Card with employee designation satisfies this requirement) and pay the membership fee.
Once eligibility is confirmed and your fee is paid, eligibility will be added
to your employee identification card through the Mountaineer Card Office.
Spouses/partners and/or family members will be issued photo ID cards through
the SRC Membership Office.
WVU students with valid Mountaineer Cards are automatically members through payment of tuition and “Campus Fees” when currently registered for classes.
Students who are taking online classes are not always mandated to pay "Campus Fees" and thus can purchase a membership for the Fall or Spring semester for $110.Eligible groups:
The Aquatics program offers a variety of activities suitable for all levels of skill. Private swim lessons are available as well as many other programs that take place in the Student Recreation Center's pools.
Available ProgramsCampus Recreation has a variety of Club Sports available. These clubs compete against other schools, providing opportunities for travel and intercollegiate competition.
The Craft Center located in the basement of Braxton Tower is a great place to let loose your creative energy and make something unique. The activities offered are listed below.
