The Mountaineers Look to Stay Cold, After Having a Winter Percentage of 0.75% in the Month of November.

After having a rough start to their inaugural season, the Mountaineer ladies bounced back with a cold month of November. The Lady Mountaineer club went a whopping 3-1 in November, to bring their record to 3-5. They were able to do this by stepping their defense up; allowing a season low 12 goals in the month of November. The Ladies were able to get in a groove and ultimately went on a three game winning streak. Now, the newly found team has faced a few challenges through the season, but they’re only showing signs of improvements the further into the season they get.

The Mountaineer’s improved a lot of skills from October to November, but their defense showed tremendous growth. The club started the month of November, facing George Washington University; who they ultimately beat 13-2. The score itself is astounding, but the remarkable statistic from this game is the low amount of shots allowed on goal for George Washington University. Over the two games faced between WVU’s women's ice hockey club and GWU’s, GWU was only able to get thirteen shots off vs. WVU’s eighty shots. The defense continued to show their tremendous growth, when facing University of Pennsylvania; who only had four shots on goal. The women’s ice hockey club will need to continue their dominant defense, to pull off two upsets in their December stretch of games.

Ice Hockey Players

As the Mountaineer’s continue skating past competition, they sit comfortably in third place in the Division ll South standings; only below Loyal University, and Univ. of Maryland. The club will be facing Loyola University on December 7th, at 9:00 PM in the Morgantown Ice Arena. They will also be facing them again the next day at 10:45 AM in a pivotal two-game stretch. The Mountaineer’s could gain four points in the PTS column, and tie Loyola for second in the standings with wins. These will be the final games for the club until February 1st, when they’ll face Montclair State, in Floyd Hall Arena.

Be sure to keep an out for more news regarding the women’s ice hockey club, as they continue their season. To stay updated on the Lady Mountaineer’s Ice Hockey Club season, feel free to follow their social media @wvuwomenspuck for more information.
