Craig Decker

Associate Director | Campus Recreation

Craig Decker has served as the Associate Director of Campus Recreation at West Virginia University since April of 2016. Craig Decker received his Bachelors of Science from Indiana University and moved on to receive his Masters in Sports Management at the University of Florida. Craig found his passion for campus recreation while working on a class project at Indiana University. He immediately fell in love with the field and turned this passion into his life’s work.

Craig has been a member of NIRSA since 2005, a member of the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education since 2015, a registered collegiate recreational sports professional since 2017 and is the current West Virginia Director of NIRSA. Craig will start his position as the NIRSA Region II Regional Representative in May of 2018. Craig has worked in the campus recreation field for over a decade, including positions at the University of Florida, the University of Virginia, Florida Atlantic University and West Virginia University.

As the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, Craig supervises the Aquatics, Fitness & Wellness, Operations, Memberships and Research areas. Craig also is involved in the overall administration, operations, technology and strategic planning of Campus Recreation.

Craig’s favorite part of his job is being a steward of the university’s resources and ensuring that Campus Recreation is creating the best experience possible for the students and the larger campus community.

In Craig’s free time, he enjoys reading, playing board and card games, mountain biking and hiking with his wife, Rachel, and dog, Blake.

Things you wouldn’t expect about Craig:

  • He loves cooking and eating Indian food.

  • He was his high school’s mascot -- an eagle.

  • He has a goal of living in 6 states by age 60. He is currently at 4!
