Cody Ballinger joined the campus recreation team in May 2019 as one of two Competitive Sports Coordinators. He received his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from James Madison University and went on to receive his Masters of Science in Athletic Administration from Texas A&M University – Commerce.
Cody has been involved with campus recreation for just under seven years serving in a variety of roles. He has been a NIRSA member since 2016 and fortunate enough to present at several NIRSA conferences. When he isn’t working on campus you can find him officiating volleyball, basketball and soccer or coaching volleyball.
As a Competitive Sports Coordinator, Cody serves as a member of a team that supervises 50+ Club Sports, offers more than 15 intramural sports each year, and collaborates with departments across campus to provide new and exciting programs. The best part of Cody’s job is watching the students and the program grow and develop. As an alumni of Men’s Club Volleyball at JMU, he understands the impact that Intramural and Club Sports can have on a student as well as a campus community.
If Cody was not working in campus recreation he would be a chef. He loves to travel and try new and exciting foods, especially seafood. He loves to play all sports and will welcome any competitive challenge, especially on his Nintendo 64.
Some things you wouldn’t expect about Cody:
- He can dunk a basketball
- He has snorkeled with loggerhead turtles and a 6-foot shark
- He plays in the North American Sand Soccer Championship every summer
- He has successfully surfed a wave on a stand up paddle board
