Summer Camp Counselor-in-Training Mentorship Program

Counselor-in-training Mentorship Program

Level up your future while making a real difference! Our Counselor-in-Training program is the perfect way for youth and teens to earn volunteer hours, build job confidence, and develop leadership skills in a fun, supportive environment. From mentoring younger campers to learning teamwork and responsibility, participants gain hands-on experience that looks great on future job applications. It’s not just a program- it’s your first step toward becoming a leader, a role model, and a future professional. The program includes a personal WVU Student Mentor, someone to guide and support you through the ups and downs of a summer job.

Volunteer Description: Counselors in Training are youth participants older than 12 and were previous campers that have expressed interest in becoming future Camp Counselors.  CITs are tasked with supporting all Leads and Camp Counselors in teaching instructional lessons, facilitating activities, and addressing needs of youth participants. CITs are not on WVU payroll and are never allowed to be alone with campers.  CITs will receive basic first aid training, risk management training, belay certification (if over 16 years old). CITs report directly to their Mentor counselor, assigned Lead Counselor, or any of the Camp Directors. CITs are still held to the Campus Rec Kids Summer Camp Code of Conduct.

Volunteer Shifts: To be determined on a case-by-case basis- some CITs may want to work full day shifts, others may only be available for morning or afternoon hours.  We can adjust costs and schedules based on individual needs.
