Welcome Week 2022

Campus Recreation is preparing to welcome the class of 2026 with a busy schedule of activities at the Student Recreation Center and beyond

Starting with the Welcome Week Cookout  on Saturday, Aug. 13, the Rec Center and the Evansdale Rec Fields will once again be filled with new, transferring and returning students. Following the cookout is the first-ever  Rec Center Pool Party , which will include an outdoor "slip and slide" from 4 to 9 p.m.

"Welcome Week is a really exciting time to bring our campus community together, and especially for our team to engage with new students," said Campus Rec Director Andy Darling. "I always look forward to the level of energy that surrounds the start of the year and the new connections being made. We're all about helping Mountaineers find the their fit!"

Campus Rec is working with Adventure WV to offer three full days of Service/Adventure/Wellness activities Sunday through Tuesday.  Activities include rock climbing, trying a club sport, cave exploration, mountain biking, trail cycling, and exploring your personal wellness.

Note that Tuesday's activities are exclusively for  returning  WVU students. Spots are filling up fast, but there's still time to sign up.

A roller rink on the upper courts of the Student Rec Center will be set up from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday. The roller rink will also be part of Mountaineer Midway  at the Student Recreation Center from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, accompanied by vintage arcade games, snacks and more.

The  eSports team will be in play from Sunday through Tuesday. Although spots are filled for the Madden and Rocket League play on Sunday and Monday, students can come to the rec center to watch Noah Johnson, WVU's first Level Next Madden National Championship winner, from noon to 2 p.m. both Sunday and Monday.  eSports will return from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, when students can not only spectate but also challenge the eSports team in play.

To accommodate the week's events, some access to the Student Recreation Center will be limited. See the full list of closures and impacts.

We will return to a normal schedule on Wednesday and look forward to having you back!
