Chris Schmoldt has served as an Associate Director of Campus Recreation at West Virginia University since the summer of 2019. Chris received his Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science from John Carroll University and Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Akron.
Chris got involved in recreation as a freshman at JCU participating in club hockey and lacrosse. He then worked as an official, customer service representative, and as a supervisor where he began to really fall in love with campus recreation.
Chris has been a member of NIRSA since 2008, where he has served in a variety of roles including Chair of the Intramural Sports Institute, Chair of the Region 2 Program Committee, and Member of the Annual Conference Program Committee. Chris really enjoys working on committees within the association as it allows him to network with colleagues and give back to the association.
Chris has worked in campus recreation as a professional since 2010. He started as the Coordinator for Sport Clubs at Florida State University, before moving on to the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports and Athletic Training. Chris worked at FSU for 9 years, helping to further enhance great programs and develop countless relationships with students.
As an Associate Director of Campus Recreation at WVU, Chris oversees Aquatics, Club Sports, the Craft Center, and Intramural Sports as well as overseeing the departments student staff development committee.
Chris really enjoys all aspects of working in campus recreation, but especially developing relationships with students and helping them transition to professional opportunities. He also really enjoys promoting the various opportunities that campus recreation provides for students to the enhance the overall college experience.
When he is not at work, Chris loves creating memories with his wife Angela and their 2-year-old son Colin. He also loves playing hockey and cheering on his favorite sports teams: Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Things you wouldn’t expect about Chris:
• He interned for the Cleveland Browns for a year in Athletic Training and Strength and Conditioning
• He and his wife started dating at 15 years old, during high school in 2001
• He loves to go to sporting events and travel with his family
