Vicki Hoover

Program Specialist | Mountaineer Kidzone

Vicki, a Morgantown native, joined the campus recreation team in 2018 as the Mountaineer Kidzone Program Specialist! She grew up in town as her father worked as an award-winning WVU professor. Victoria Hoover, better known as “Miss Vicki” or “Mrs. Vicki”, has worked for Mountaineer KidZone in some capacity since 2009. She currently works as the Child Development Program Specialist for WVU Student Family Resources.

Vicki received her Bachelor's in Child Development and Family Studies and Master’s in Reading, both from West Virginia University. Vicki has loved spending time with children for as long as she can remember! Before receiving her masters, she taught in her own preschool classroom for three years.

In addition to her degrees from WVU, she also has a professional teaching certification in birth through Pre-k education, a reading specialist certification in Pre-k through adult and an American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Vicki worked in the hospitality industry with organizations like the Marriott Corporation and the Greater Morgantown WV Convention and Visitors Bureau before starting her time at WVU.

As the Child Development Program Specialist, Vicki's responsibility is to ensure that Mountaineer KidZone provides safe, quality care and developmentally appropriate activities for children ages six weeks through eight years of age. Children visit Mountaineer KidZone to play and learn in a nurturing, educational environment while their parents utilize the Student Rec Center. Vicki is also responsible for carefully selecting the MKZ classroom teachers, who are WVU students from all disciplines and backgrounds.

Vicki loves spending time with her husband, Brian, of over 20 years. They enjoy cooking together and experimenting with new recipes, touring wineries with friends and taking long walks. Their favorite place to vacation together is the beach, where they enjoy strolling along the shore line hunting for treasures in the sand. They also enjoy visiting with their extra special niece and nephew that live in town as often as they can!

Things you wouldn’t expect about Vicki:

  • Her favorite color is purple! (Anyone that knows her knows this!)

  • She celebrated her last birthday at the Biltmore Estate dancing the night away at The Commodores and Kool and the Gang concert!

  • She considers cheese to be its own food group – she has never tried one that she didn’t like!
