Session 1’s Champs came, saw and conquered!

Flag Football champ night 2022

The Towers Courts were filled with friendly competition Tuesday, as WVU Intramural’s Fall Session 1 came to a close with its Champ Night.

There were huge wins for volleyball and 3v3 basketball.

Chandler Mills and Martin Campagna, who were part of the winning volleyball team, said that a tough loss last year motivated them to get back on the field and work hard to achieve this year's win.

“We were right back at it this year getting ready to go at it again, and sure enough we put the work in and we got the dough,” Campagna said.

Both Campagna and Mills have been playing volleyball since high school, and decided to join the championship to have fun competing with friends – and for the T-shirt, Campagna says.

Campagna and Mills were admittedly nervous about the Championship after last year’s loss, but after their win, they’re ready to compete in the upcoming soccer, basketball and battleship canoe championships as well.

Campagna says, “We’ll play them all! We’ll play them all.”

The 3v3 Basketball team “Drill n’ Fill” were champions as well. Longtime team member John Wilfong says that the win wasn’t a huge surprise to him since his team has won 5v5 basketball for the past six years.

Since Drill n’ Fill has competed every year, they knew exactly where to look for rec sign-ups. They were confident going into the match, and they came out victorious!

Wilfong's long-reigning winning team will be graduating this year, so look out for a definite new winner during Session 1 Champ Night basketball next year!

Fall Session 2 starts next week. Learn more about this session’s sports here.
