The Mountaineer forward’s look to continue to their chill season

Following their long departure from the ice, the Lady Mountaineers enter their final stretch of games to end their inaugural season. The club has not played a game since December 8th, when they matched up against Loyola University. In their last match, the Lady’s matched up against the Greyhounds in a home match; in which they lost 1-6. The Mountaineers are currently on a three game skid losing two in a row to Loyola University, and one match against Villanova University. Even though the club is going through a little of an offensive struggle, they’ve managed to still stay relevant in the regular season standings. Currently, the Mountaineers are third in the Division ii South region; sitting only below University of Maryland, and Loyola University. If the Lady Mountaineers manage to end the season winning out, then they’ll be able to end it with a 6-7 record, finishing third in the standings of their inaugural season.

In the final three matches of the season, the opponents of the Mountaineers have a combined 3 wins out of 19 games played. They started their final stretch of games with Montclair State, in an away match at Floyd Hall Arena. The Redhawks currently sit at the bottom of the Division ii North region; with a 2-7 overall record. In the final inter-division regular season match, the Lady Mountaineers took advantage of the poor Redhawk defense by using the play of our skilled forwards in thriller this past Saturday. The Mountaineer forwards were able to finish 10 goals against Montclair State. Samantha Miller led the team with 6 goals, and ultimately leads the team and division in goals with 27 finished this season. Samantha Miller also leads the division in PTS; with a whopping 37 points this season, and is also in the top 5 for assist with 10. Kadyrose Newman is currently tied atop the leaderboard in assist for the Division ii south region; with 13 assists! Numerous players on the club continue to show their dominance against fellow competition, and will look to continue it in their final stretch of games.

In the final two matchups of the regular season, the Mountaineers will be facing Towson University. The Towson Tigers sit below WVU in the standings, with a record of 1-9; only one game above George Washington. In these two home matches, the Mountaineers will face one of the worst defenses in the division. You should look for the forwards to attack the Tigers goalie; who’s allowed 100 goals on the year so far! In order for the Mountaineers to win at home, they will also need a little home ice advantage from the crowd.

The first game is set for Saturday, February 8th at 4PM, and the second match between the two will conclude the regular season on Sunday, February 9th at 10:45AM. With two home games left to end the season, coming out and supporting the club could be vital for the final standings. As well as supporting, come out and congratulate those who showed Mountaineer athleticism all season long by climbing the board of season leaders! So come on out to the Morgantown Ice Arena next weekend, to celebrate the inaugural season for the Lady Mountaineers.
