WVU's first home game in history.
On the tenth of April, West Virginia University Recreation Center announced an addition to their club sports program, which involved adding a first ever Women’s Ice Hockey club. The individuals were able to turn their dreams of becoming a club into a reality.
As the season approaches, the fifteen female roster is filled with unique players
of different levels of hockey experience. Overall, they come together to form
a club of females who share an interest in playing Ice Hockey. The club received
from the official NHL account on Twitter, which got their name out to the public.
Some community events they held around campus included come smooch-a-pooch
for WVU women’s ice hockey, and also having a float in the homecoming parade
this year. The team has also given their name a place within the club community
by raising money to find their funds. As of right now the lady’s have raised
$1,125 out of $10,000. Fortunately, the Men’s Ice Hockey club loaned gear and
any unused equipment for the women’s club to use. As the season begins to start,
the women’s club prepares to take on a very challenging schedule to get their
season underway.
The women’s ice hockey club will take on Rowan University in their first ever match up as a club. The match is set for the nineteenth at 10:40 PM, in Glassboro, New Jersey. The mountaineer’s will start their legacy against a Rowan team, who finished at the top in their division with a 10-2 regular season record. That’s not the only competition the mountaineers intend on facing against this year, their schedule this season is filled with tough competition. They will be playing with the ACHA as a division 2 team against clubs like University of Maryland, George Washington, and many more,. The women’s ice hockey club will have their first ever home game against Univ. of Maryland at 10:00PM, on the twenty-fifth, in the Morgantown Ice Arena. The lady mountaineers will then have a brief homestand between the 25th through the 2nd of November, which will include three regular season games.
