Youth Councelor

Job Description

Within the department of Campus Recreation, Youth Counselors assist with the programming and oversight of all Campus Rec Kids youth programs (Summer Camp, Kids Night Out, Youth Climbing Club, etc.). Youth Counselors are expected to provide positive leadership and role modeling for all youth participants while maintaining a flexible, energetic attitude. Youth Counselors gain skills and experience pertaining to customer service, leadership, teamwork, collaboration and risk management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for executing overall program operations including teaching instructional lessons, facilitating activities and addressing behavioral needs of youth participants
  • Provide a safe, educational and fun experience for all youth participants
  • Establish and maintain positive and appropriate relationships with youth participants, parents/guardians, and staff
  • Represent the Department of Campus Recreation in a professional manner at all times
  • Enforce and execute all policies and procedures set-forth by the Department
  • Make sound, time-sensitive decisions based on the Department’s mission, vision, and values
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings as scheduled
  • Assist with leading, developing, planning, preparing, supervising and other general program operations, activities, and initiatives
  • Assist with special projects and other tasks/duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED & First Aid Certification
  • Policy 49 (Children on Campus Training)
  • Must be currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student in good academic standing at WVU
  • Training and/or experience in one or more of the following areas are preferred: sport education, childcare, camp counseling, team building, experiential education, recreational activities and arts & crafts

Benefits

  • $10/Hour
  • ~40 Hours/Week (Summer Camp)
