Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility
- Communicates with staff and patrons effectively to ensure aquatic safety and an enjoyable experience
- Responds well to constructive critique and coaching
- Acts immediately and appropriately to ensure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
- Participates in regular in-service training sessions
- Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times
- Maintains a high standard of customer service
- Performs various maintenance duties as directed
- Prepares and maintains appropriate reports
- Completes additional duties as assigned by supervisor
*Individuals interested in becoming a Campus Recreation Lifeguard MUST have a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification to be considered for employment*
Job Requirements
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
- Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
- Ability to pass pre-employment water skills evaluation as stipulated by Campus Recreation
- Available to work weekends/holidays
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
- Self-motivated with the ability to work without supervision
- Ability to lead and motivate staff
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
