There is a Limit

Know the precautions of drinking, before it’s too late.

Last week was the 5 year anniversary of the death of Nolan Burch. On Nov. 14, 2014, the 18-year-old freshman from Buffalo, N.Y. became a victim of hazing at the Kappa Sigma house. During a fraternity party, he was blindfolded, handed a bottle of bourbon and pressured into drinking it at a fast pace. After drinking this and more throughout the night, he became unconscious. Other people thought it was funny and started taking pictures, kicking him and dancing around him. An hour went by before someone noticed and decided to call for an ambulance. Unfortunately, it was too late.

WVU's Strong Showing at NIRSA Conference

WVU sent 20 students, staff and graduate assistants to this year’s NIRSA Region II Conference. Learn more about NIRSA, the Region II Conference and gain some insight on key student takeaways from the experience. 

NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, is an association comprised of collegiate professionals and leaders that are invested in growing the collegiate campus recreation and health and wellbeing industries. NIRSA serves as the primary resource for fostering the education of undergraduates and graduate students, while continuing education for collegiate recreation professionals throughout their careers. NIRSA also governs and sets standards for what collegiate campus recreation does in their industry. Founded in 1950, NIRSA has grown to 4,500 dedicated professionals, students, and businesses, serving an estimated 8.1 million students in total (NIRSA, 2019). West Virginia University has been a long-time institutional member of the organization and has recently invested great resources and efforts in getting WVU students and faculty involved with the organization.

Stretches to Do in the Morning

Everyone's morning routine Is different, some wake up at the crack of dawn and brew a nice pot of coffee while others wait till the last minute to get up. Whether you're either of these people, we all need to stretch to get the most out of our bodies. Some of the best stretches to do for your body will be, full-body stretches. These stretches will help your body be more productive by loosening you up and giving you energy.

While doing these stretches, you will want to be doing them for 30 seconds at a time. It's best to do the two different types of stretches together, which are static and active. Static stretches will help you limber up while the active stretches will get your blood flowing and start providing you with energy to help get started for the day. To help prevent pulling a muscle or hurting yourself, it’s best to do static stretches.

Spooky Sightings in WV

Reymann Brewing Company

An hour and a half outside of Morgantown, a once well-known brewery named Reymann Brewing Company lies in ruins open to the public. The brewery’s history is meddled as not many sources or information exists on it. There is a common thread between the sources used however. Although some sources had too little details, others had more specific information with some of the dates not aligning.

Strongest Mountaineer 2019

WVU’s 2019 Strongest Mountaineers 

On Sunday, October 20th, WVU’s Student Recreation Center and the WVU Powerlifting Club hosted their 5th annual Strongest Mountaineer competition. Men and Women competed in squatting, benching, and deadlifting events to determine who was 2019’s Strongest Mountaineer. The competition was scored using the Wilks formula, which is a coefficient that can be used to measure the strength of powerlifters against one another despite the different weights of the lifters, making it an even playing field for each competitor.
