WVU Powerlifting Club Wins National Title

The WVU Powerlifting Club clinched the Co-Ed Championship at the USPA Collegiate Nationals on February 23rd at Ohio University. 25 Mountaineers competed out of 120 total lifters for this title from colleges including West Point, TCU, Michigan State University, and Old Dominion. With three men and three women placing for medals in their respective weight classes, including first prizes for Michaela Piendel and Jordan Rodriguez, WVU returned to Morgantown as Co-ed Collegiate Nationals Champions. This victory for the Mountaineers was their first national title, and was done in only their second season of competing.

Newfound WVU Women's Hockey Ready to Hit the Ice

The newly formed WVU Women’s Hockey team is preparing for their inaugural season this fall. Founded in March by WVU Junior Ashley Osborne, the team held their first Prospect Skate on the 23rd and now sports 15 skaters on the roster. With team members actively pursuing off-season work and an executive board planning events and fundraisers, all that’s left for an exciting first year is filling the roles of goaltender and head coach.

WVU Fishing Club Angling for National Title

This year, WVU’s Fishing Club has two teams competing for national championship titles in both the Bassmaster Carhartt College Series National Championship and the FLW Yeti College Fishing Series National Championship. The teams consist of two anglers each, with the team of Nolan Minor and Casey Lanier, and the team of Branden Newcome and Michael Shughart representing WVU. In addition, the team of Nolan Minor and Casey Lanier is currently ranked fourth in the nation for the BASS College Team of the Year.

Campus Recreation Completes Third Annual SRC Maintenance Week

The Campus Recreation staff has concluded Maintenance Week, during which, the Student Recreation Center was closed to undergo cosmetic changes, a deep clean, and various improvements. As the Student Recreation Center is one of the first amenities that future students see on their tour of West Virginia University, it is important to maintain an excellent facility. Future students will not only be impressed by the imposing climbing wall and plethora of gymnasium courts, but with the air of professionalism and consideration that the staff at the Recreation Center continue to infuse into their work. Maintenance Week is but an extension of the constant care that the staff at the Recreation Center exhibit on a consistent basis.

WVU Club Gymnastics Third at Nationals

After only three years as a club sports team, WVU’s Club Gymnastics team placed 3rd at the National Championship in Fort Worth, Texas. Two team members placed individually in bars, floor and vault.

The National Championship took place at the Fort Worth Convention Center from April 11-15. Eight members of the ten-person WVU Club Gymnastics team traveled to Fort Worth to compete against 17 other teams in the level 6 division.

SRC Aquatics Area Closing for Renovations

The Student Rec Center aquatics area will be closed from Thursday, April 26 to mid June.

During this time, both pools will be drained to allow for the replacement of the interior shell and installation of new underwater lights.
