Social distancing? Go for a hike!
West Virginia is one of the most beautiful states during the Springtime, just ask any native here! With the recent situation, it’s best to stay away from people, what better way than going into the mountains! When the trees and flowers begin to bloom there is no other place to be. One spectacular flower that makes the area come alive is the state flower, the Rhododendron flower, and its beautiful leaves are a spectacle to see here in West Virginia during spring.
A nice day trip to help get out of the house and away from the city includes a lovely drive on Route 60 that brings you past Kanawha Falls, which is a beautiful place in itself. A little past Kanawha Falls you’ll happen upon Cathedral Falls. Cathedral Falls is an unknown spectacle to most, but a must-see if you’re taking this route. Cathedral offers a great view and a nice way to cool off. After you’ve taken in the view of Cathedral and get back on route, you’ll come across Hawks Nest which is a State Park here in West Virginia. Hawks Nest offers some of the most breath-taking views available around these areas. You get to see the beautiful New River as well as vast mountains that go on for miles.
Another nice day trip or maybe even a weekend trip would be to take a drive to the Summersville Lake. Summersville Lake offers camping locations all over, and the lake is open to everyone. Summersville offers a little bit for everyone. You can take a boat out on the water and enjoy some nice weather, or you can Climb the cliffs on the side of the lake and take a plunge into the water from the rocks. If you’re not a water person, Summersville has many hiking trails to explore. The most famous trail they have is the Long Point Trail that will lead out into the lake, with a great view. Summersville would be a great go-to if you had nothing planned!
We are told to keep social distancing which makes this the perfect time to go on that hike you’ve always wanted to go on, or maybe take a nice long drive down one of the scenic routes that you haven’t driven down in a while. While you are out, however, you need to be sure you wash your hands and stay away from others, keeping yourself safe from the COVID-19 keeps others around you safe from the virus.
