New Climbtopia for Morgantown

Well, there is a full-scale indoor gymcoming to Morgantown, the Gritstone Climbing + Fitness Gym. All you could ever want in a climbing gym with 12,000 sq. feet of terrain suitable to every class of climber from beginner to expert. Rock climbing has been a staple of West Virginia for a very long time with our mountainous terrain, but with this new addition to Morgantown, we are invited to try our skill in an indoor setting.

So, what exactly is a rock climbing gym? A rock climbing gym is an entire space decked out in some of the best climbing courses ranging from beginner, advanced, and pro. Whether you’re a returning professional seeking to get some warm-ups or just a nice workout, or you’re a newcomer just looking to try something new and want others around you who also feel the same way and have similar skills as you, it’s a great place to build trust and everlasting friendships. However, if you’re looking to get a nice full-body workout, this is probably one of the best ways to do so.

So, what will Gritstone have and when will it open? Gritstone is partnering with Walltopia to develop and deliver the walls. After Walltopia has delivered the walls, it’ll take about 4-6 weeks to install and could take another 4 weeks after that to set routes. The wall design is by Jason Kehl. There will be roped walls up to 48 ft high and bouldering walls up to 15 ft high. The new climbing gym will also include 37 top ropes lanes and leadable lanes, 17 lead only and 7 tops only, there will also be 15-meter speed climbing lanes. With an astounding 13,015 total sq. ft of wall surface. But this gym is not only rock climbing! It also has free weights, cardio equipment, and a yoga area. The gym will host youth and adult classes, although prices have not been announced for them yet. Gritstone will also have a competitive climbing team for the area. Memberships and day-prices will be announced once presales are available, but walk-ins will be available as well. If you are new and don’t have your own equipment, they will have rental gear available for everyone.
