WVU Fishing Club Angling for National Title

This year, WVU’s Fishing Club has two teams competing for national championship titles in both the Bassmaster Carhartt College Series National Championship and the FLW Yeti College Fishing Series National Championship. The teams consist of two anglers each, with the team of Nolan Minor and Casey Lanier, and the team of Branden Newcome and Michael Shughart representing WVU. In addition, the team of Nolan Minor and Casey Lanier is currently ranked fourth in the nation for the BASS College Team of the Year.

Campus Recreation Completes Third Annual SRC Maintenance Week

The Campus Recreation staff has concluded Maintenance Week, during which, the Student Recreation Center was closed to undergo cosmetic changes, a deep clean, and various improvements. As the Student Recreation Center is one of the first amenities that future students see on their tour of West Virginia University, it is important to maintain an excellent facility. Future students will not only be impressed by the imposing climbing wall and plethora of gymnasium courts, but with the air of professionalism and consideration that the staff at the Recreation Center continue to infuse into their work. Maintenance Week is but an extension of the constant care that the staff at the Recreation Center exhibit on a consistent basis.

WVU Club Gymnastics Third at Nationals

After only three years as a club sports team, WVU’s Club Gymnastics team placed 3rd at the National Championship in Fort Worth, Texas. Two team members placed individually in bars, floor and vault.

The National Championship took place at the Fort Worth Convention Center from April 11-15. Eight members of the ten-person WVU Club Gymnastics team traveled to Fort Worth to compete against 17 other teams in the level 6 division.

SRC Aquatics Area Closing for Renovations

The Student Rec Center aquatics area will be closed from Thursday, April 26 to mid June.

During this time, both pools will be drained to allow for the replacement of the interior shell and installation of new underwater lights.

WVU Campus Recreation Ramps Up Industry Involvement

WVU Campus Recreation ramped up it’s industry involvement with a strong showing at the 2018 NIRSA Conference, held earlier this month in Denver, Colorado. In addition to sending four full-time staff and two graduate assistants to attend the conference, WVU presented on leadership, claimed two national awards and had one if its own elected to the position of NIRSA Region II Representative.

LED Lighting Renovations Extend to SRC Aquatics Area.

Campus Recreation, in collaboration with Facilities Management, has been working to make improvements to the Student Rec Center in order to better serve students, reduce utility costs and reduce energy consumption.

A phased replacement of interior lighting is forecasted to reduce energy consumption by over 80 percent. Currently, light fixtures in both multi-court gyms and the pool have been converted from metal halide to LED. The next phase of interior lighting replacement will include the racquetball and squash courts, followed by the climbing wall floodlights. These lighting replacements have allowed Campus Recreation to reduce consumption while dramatically increasing user experience with appropriate light levels.
