Job Description

Within the department of Campus Recreation, Competitive Sports Assistants ensure successful delivery of all group exercise programming on the Evansdale Fields. Competitive Sports Assistants gain skills and experience pertaining to customer service, time management, effective and efficient communication and conflict resolution.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and take down equipment for group exercise classes on the Evansdale Fields
  • Assist Intramural Sports Supervisors with equipment needs
  • Ensure cleanliness of equipment through regular detailing and inspection
  • Represent the Department of Campus Recreation in a professional manner at all times
  • Provide a safe, fun and clean atmosphere for all members and guests
  • Establish and maintain a welcoming environment for all participants
  • Provide exemplary customer service to all participants
  • Enforce and execute all policies and procedures set forth by the Department
  • Respond as needed to emergency situations and follow the Emergency Action Plan
  • Make sound, time-sensitive decisions based on the Department’s mission and vision
  • Assist with special events taking place on an as needed basis
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings as scheduled
  • Assist with special projects and tasks as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student in good academic standing at WVU
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with others
  • Willing to work morning, afternoon, evening and weekend hours as scheduled
  • Possess general knowledge of all Campus Recreation programs
  • American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED & First Aid Certification*
    • Employees within the Department of Campus Recreation are required to maintain levels of certification based on their specific positions. It is the employee’s responsibility to attain and maintain their certifications. All certifications and trainings must be obtained prior to the first official shift.
